The 797 is a parts bin junk bike made in Thailand and built to a price point that is obviously low. Otherwise the 821 is a really great more modern and powerful alternative. Had a 821 and sold it after buying an old Monster 900s.
WebThis is probably not my pick for a first bike unless you're literally planning on dumping it for $1k in a year, and buying something bigger, and don't care about the massive loss. Depending on where you live there's going to be a zillion times better options in various spaces to suggest, in the $3k pricerange. WebThe XSR is much less beginner friendly. Normally I'd say CB300R but long highway rides aren't it's cup of tea. The CB650R isn't beginner friendly, though, and the CB500F isn't neo-retro like the CB/R bikes. That said, it's far from retro but the CB500X is the best beginner friendly bike for long rides out there. spottie_ottie.

Any of these bikes would be great. I had an MT03 (same engine as the R3) and I loved it.
